Scar Tissue Therapy
For Post-Surgery and Post Injury Recovery
A New, Effective Therapy for Healing Scar Tissue
Scar tissue is a natural part of the body's healing response to damage from injuries, surgery, infections, or skin trauma. Whether it’s from surgery or an injury, scar tissue impacts more that 50 percent of men and women in the United States. However, women more often than men experience scar tissue in their life due to C-sections, hysterectomies and breast surgery. Scar tissue, whether new or old, often has lasting side effects such as pain, reduced mobility and swelling. Until recently, the treatment of scar tissue has mainly relied on manual, surface-level manipulation such as specialized massage therapy (myofascial and fibrosis), employing the Graston Technique, Active Release Therapy (ART), Physical Therapy, Laser Therapy and topical salves applied to the scar. Now, with the advance of Radio Frequency Technology, the healing of scar tissue can be addressed in a pleasant, pain-free way not only at the surface level but also to help repair the sub-surface adhesions beneath the physical scar.

Freedom Regenerative Medicine is the only clinic in the Pacific Northwest offering the INDIBA radio frequency (RF) medical device therapy. Dr. Carol Petherbridge, founder of Freedom Regenerative Medicine, in Bend Oregon, has been treating patients with INDIBA Therapy with incredible success. Often, after only a few sessions, patients experience rapid and dramatic changes in their scar tissue: less pain, more mobility, softening, less pulling, and less restriction.
The INDIBA Therapy RF technology helps mend scar tissue by stimulating the body's natural healing process, promoting blood flow to the area, and activating cell regeneration, which can lead to softer, smoother scar tissue by breaking down the dense fibers within the scar and improving its flexibility; this is achieved through INDIBA’s unique 448kHz radiofrequency that is considered biocompatible with human tissue.

What’s the Difference Between Scars and Adhesions?
Scars are the visible, external signs that your body is healing. Adhesions, on the other hand, are internal—like a hidden layer of glue that causes tissues or organs to stick together in ways they shouldn’t. Imagine a scar as a patch on a canvas, marking where something has been repaired. Now picture adhesions as that same canvas with glue between the layers, making everything stick together underneath. While scars tell a story on the surface, adhesions often quietly limit movement and function from within.
SCARS:
Location: Primarily on the skin surface.
Function: Result from injury, surgery, infection, or inflammation, and serve to repair damage to the skin.
Appearance: Can vary in appearance, including flat, lumpy, sunken, or colored.
Example: A scar from a cut on your arm.
ADHESIONS:
Location: Internal, forming between tissues and organs within the body.
Function: Connects tissues and organs that are not normally connected, often after surgery, infection, or inflammation.
Appearance: Can range from thin sheets to thick fibrous irregular bands.
Example: Adhesions in the abdomen that connect loops of the intestines or other organs.

Why is INDIBA Remarkable for Treating Scar Tissue and Adhesions
Key points about INDIBA Therapy for Scar Tissue and Adhesions:

Cellular stimulation
-
INDIBA Therapy activates cells within the scar tissue, prompting them to produce more collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for skin elasticity and structure, which can help soften and smooth the scar.
Improved blood circulation
-
By increasing blood flow to the scar area, INDIBA Therapy delivers more oxygen and nutrients to the cells, facilitating the healing process and reducing scar tissue formation.
Non-invasive treatment
-
INDIBA Therapy is considered a non-invasive procedure, meaning it doesn't cause further damage to the affected tissues, making it a suitable option for most individuals.
Tissue regeneration
-
Stimulates cell regeneration and activates fibroblasts, which are responsible for collagen production, leading to improved scar texture and better movement of the tissue surrounding the scar.
Pain reduction
-
The treatment can alleviate pain and discomfort around the scar by improving blood flow and reducing inflammation, restoring sensation and reducing numbness.
Improved mobility
-
For scars that restrict movement, INDIBA Therapy can help increase flexibility and range of motion in the affected area as well as free up movement that may be impacting other regions not directly around the scar tissue, often starting with the first session.
Comfortable:
-
Therapies are delivered with a treatment tip and coupling gel on the surface of the skin, utilizing a non-invasive, comfortable frequency that gently penetrates deep into the tissue with no downtime afterwards.
Why Seek Treatment for a Scar?
Scar tissue is often looked at as a cosmetic or superficial concern, but in reality it can cause limitations and problems at a much deeper level by restricting movement due to its tight, inflexible nature, leading to pain, discomfort, and reduced range of motion in affected areas, particularly around joints. It can also trap nerves, causing further pain, numbness and sensitivity. In severe cases, scar tissue may even lead to functional impairments depending on the location of the scar tissue, such as restricted arm movement or pain with core-building exercises.

Key Limitations and Problems from Scar Tissue:
Restricted movement:
Scar tissue can pull on surrounding tissues, limiting joint mobility and causing contractures, especially around joints like knees, shoulders, and elbows, making it difficult to perform everyday activities. Lower abdominal scars from pelvic surgery such as C-sections or hysterectomies can lead to lower back pain due to adhesions limiting normal motion in the deep layers of fascia.

Pain and tenderness:
Scar tissue can be sensitive to the touch and cause pain, especially when stretched or moved, due to the dense fibrous nature of the tissue.

Nerve entrapment:
In some cases, scar tissue can form around nerves, causing tingling, burning sensations, or numbness in the affected area.

Aesthetic concerns:
Visible scars can be aesthetically displeasing for some individuals due to discoloration, lumpiness, or puckering around the scar.

Organ dysfunction:
Internal scar tissue, like abdominal adhesions, can interfere with organ function by causing restrictions in movement and potentially leading to complications like bowel obstruction and bladder dysfunction.
What Sets INDIBA THERAPY Apart
From Other Scar Tissue Treatments?
INDIBA Therapy differs from other therapies, like laser therapy, massage therapy, physical therapy, primarily due to its unique patented RF technology and its focus on deep tissue regeneration rather than just surface-level treatments. INDIBA uses a specific radiofrequency frequency (448 kHz) to stimulate cellular activity and collagen production deep within the tissue, leading to long-lasting results with minimal discomfort and downtime. Other scar therapies might focus on surface remodeling or stimulating collagen in a more superficial manner.
Here's a more detailed comparison of INDIBA Therapy versus other scar treatments

Technology:
INDIBA uses radiofrequency energy at a specific frequency (448 kHz) to stimulate cellular regeneration and collagen production. Other therapies, like laser therapy, use focused light energy which only penetrates into the superficial tissues, while micro-needling uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries to stimulate healing. Micro-needling has a prickly, irritating feeling on the skin. The Graston Technique, which massage therapists and physical therapists’ often employ, can be painful as the metal tool is manually pressed down and pulled along the scar tissue forcibly manipulating the tissue to release from the adhesion.

Depth of Penetration:
INDIBA Therapy gently and comfortably penetrates deeper into the tissue, reaching layers that other therapies cannot easily access. This deeper penetration allows INDIBA to stimulate tissue regeneration at a cellular level, promoting long-lasting results. Deep healing at the cellular level is most effective when the body is not under stress or pain. Most current methods of treating scar tissue and adhesions are stressful and painful causing the body and mind to resist true, deep healing.

Mechanism of Action:
INDIBA Therapy works by stimulating cellular activity and collagen production. Other therapies, like laser therapy, may primarily focus on surface remodeling or stimulating collagen in a more superficial manner.

Comfort and Downtime:
INDIBA Therapy is a comfortable and painless treatment, with no downtime. Other therapies, like laser therapy or micro-needling, may require more recovery time and deep manual approaches like the Graston Technique can be quite uncomfortable.

Targeted Areas:
INDIBA Therapy can be used on most areas of the body and all types of scars including keloid and hypertrophic scars. Other therapies may not be effective in treating all types of scars such as keloid or hypertrophic scars.
In essence, INDIBA Therapy offers a deeper, more comfortable, more targeted approach to scar therapy, focusing on cellular regeneration and collagen production from within the tissue, while other therapies may focus on surface remodeling or stimulating collagen in a more superficial manner.
